In the space of a decade (2009-2022), the equivalent of the Val-de-Marne département will have been built up, according to Cerema. That's around 25,000 hectares of natural or agricultural land per year! The vast majority of this land is used to build housing, but commercial buildings also eat up natural land. Some 5,000 hectares a year over the last decade, according to a study recently published by the Banque de France.
