Newmark further bolsters finance teams; JLL adds valuation leader; Sagard names new president

Newmark, a real estate services firm making a concerted effort to win more capital markets business, has named new leaders for some of its major finance-focused teams. In one move, the firm appointed Neal Armstrong as head of the firm's new fund administration business. The New York-based company said Armstrong, who has more than two decades of experience in accounting and other real estate fund services, will lead a nationwide build-out of the new Newmark practice. Armstrong joined Newmark from Bank of New York, where he served as global head of real estate fund services, and held earlier roles at Deutsche Asset & Wealth Management and KPMG.

Newmark also promoted Marc Shapiro to practice leader for its valuation and advisory financial reporting practice. A senior managing director at Newmark, Shapiro has three decades of finance-related experience. He joined Newmark in 2018 after prior roles with FTI Consulting, Cushman & Wakefield and Albert Valuation Group.

JLL said Casey Burns joined the firm as an executive director based in Austin, Texas. He will focus on industrial property valuations as the company seeks to increase its service profile for that practice in Texas and other Southwestern regions.

In Denver, investment management firm Sagard Real Estate promoted Mark Bigarel from chief operating officer to president. He will lead day-to-day operations as CEO Rick Stone continues to oversee expansion efforts.
