Newmark has appointed Kyle Lutnick, son of U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, to a newly created role as chief strategy officer.
The younger Lutnick, a member of Newmark's board of directors since February 2025, will help shape the firm's agenda regarding data, artificial intelligence and technology initiatives, the New York-based brokerage firm said. He’ll report to Chief Operating Officer Luis Alvarado.
Lutnick will also sit on Newmark’s executive committee. As part of the new role, Newmark said it has established a management-level strategy committee made up of senior leaders including Lutnick.
Lutnick, 30, will receive a base salary of $500,000 per year and will be eligible for incentive compensation and other awards, Newmark said in a regulatory filing. Lutnick also serves as executive vice chairman of Cantor Fitzgerald, Newmark’s largest and controlling shareholder.
"As Newmark continues to deliver broad-based growth and expand its global capabilities, we continue to see meaningful opportunities to build on Newmark's trajectory through strategic investment in operational capabilities that enhance collaboration, improve efficiency and further differentiate our service offering globally," Chief Executive Barry Gosin said in a statement. "Kyle's service on Newmark's board of directors has demonstrated his strong ability to identify growth opportunities and bring innovative thinking to our business."
Howard Lutnick, Newmark’s former executive chairman and Cantor Fitzgerald’s longtime chief, stepped down from his executive and board positions at the firms in February 2025 after being confirmed as commerce secretary. He subsequently divested his personal holdings in 2025 as part of a government ethics agreement, transferring his ownership to trusts benefiting his four children.
Before being named to the role, Kyle Lutnick spent nearly four years at Newmark’s flexible-workspace provider Knotel, most recently serving as global managing director, according to his LinkedIn profile. Before Knotel, he was part of Newmark’s New York retail advisory team.
He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Stanford University. In a student biography, he said he was drawn to the field’s “social aspects in understanding people and social situations.”
Alongside his finance and real estate career, Lutnick has built a profile in nightlife, performing as DJ and rapper “Kxtz,” including sets at major New York venues and opening for artists such as Louis the Child, 3LAU and Rae Sremmurd, according to industry site Chartmetric.
