The Bloor-Yorkville Business Improvement Area has appointed Janet McCausland its new executive director as the Toronto business group looks to enhance the district as a destination for luxury retail, dining and urban living.
In her new role, McCausland, who assumed the position Jan. 5, will manage the Business Improvement Area's overall strategy and daily operations, working with the management board, its partners at the city of Toronto, and other local stakeholders, the BIA said.
“She is recognized for building high-impact programs, leading complex organizations and fostering collaborative partnerships that drive long-term growth and positive community outcomes,” the BIA said.
McCausland replaced Briar de Lange, who retired, according to BIA spokesperson Jessica Mallet, in an email.
McCausland brings more than two and a half decades of experience in senior leadership roles in strategic planning, shareholder engagement, communications, sustainability and community development in the non-profit and private sectors.
She recently worked as an independent adviser for residential developers, charities and early-stage companies, helping to develop strategies, partnerships and exterior relationships.
Notably, McCausland held several senior positions during a decade-long stint with The King’s Trust Canada, including head of programs and head of communications and sustainability. The national charity creates pathways to employment for young people who face barriers.
Before that, McCausland helmed communications and engagement initiatives for environmental organizations and also co-founded a national non-profit organization.
The Bloor-Yorkville neighbourhood is bordered by Scollard Street to the north, St. Mary Street to the south, Avenue Road to the West and Church Street to the East.
