Gordon Brothers Picks Pair as Co-Heads of North American Real Estate

Gordon Brothers, a restructuring and investment firm know for helping major companies liquidate portfolios, named Michael Burden and Al Williams as co-heads of North American real estate services. Burden and Williams will lead the growth and expansion of Gordon Brothers’ real estate services platform and advisory business. The Boston-based firm said the pair will focus on helping companies develop and implement operational efficiency plans within their real estate portfolios. Burden and Williams joined Gordon from ExcessSpace, a Newmark company, where they were partners at the real estate consulting and advisory firm known for its work in the shopping center industry.
Burden, based in New York, has more than 25 years of retail real estate experience. For the past 15 years, he specialized in marketing, branding, business development and corporate planning. Williams is based in California. He has nearly 30 years of real estate experience in developing business strategy, marketing, branding and leading new business initiatives. Gordon Brothers Chief Investment Officer Frank Morton said the addition of Burden and Williams will help the firm expand its real estate service business.
US Government Names Buildings Service Commissioner
The head of the U.S. General Services Administration's Public Buildings Service, the group that manages a national real estate portfolio of about 371 million rentable square feet, has departed after directing the GSA during workplace challenges presented by the pandemic. Nina Albert, who had served as the GSA's Public Buildings Service commissioner since July 2021, left the agency and immediately was succeeded by Elliot Doomes, who had been serving as regional administrator for GSA’s national capital area since January. As commissioner, Doomes will oversee the GSA real estate portfolio the government owns or leases in the U.S. and six territories. He'll take the reins of a group that maintains workspace for 1.1 million federal employees and works to preserve over 500 historic properties.
Doomes, who joined the GSA in January, has nearly 20 years of experience working on Capitol Hill, most recently at the Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee of the House of Representatives Appropriations Committee. On his LinkedIn profile, Doomes describes himself as an "Experienced Lawyer with a demonstrated history of working in the Federal Government across all three branches of government." He has over 10 years of experience helping oversee federal real estate and economic development projects.
JLL Capital Markets Pro Moves to Southeast Multifamily Team
JLL capital markets veteran Peter Yorck moved from Los Angeles to Atlanta, where he joined what the brokerage calls its multi-housing investment sales team. Yorck, who spent eight years with JLL and HFF in Los Angeles and San Francisco, will work to increase JLL's institutional multifamily business in greater Atlanta and Nashville, Tennessee. In his new role, he will work closely with the partners on the Southeast multi-housing investment sales team including John Weber, Bill Shippen, Vic Ciancetta and Nick Brown. The addition of Yorck will help the team further expand its business in the region, said Richard Reid, who co-leads the Atlanta and Nashville offices for JLL capital markets. The brokerage said it is expanding its team in Atlanta due to strong investor interest in multifamily properties in the market. "Specifically, from 2021 through 2022, the area saw north of $36 billion in multi-housing investment sales transactions close," JLL said.
Over the past 30 months, Yorck completed investment sales transactions with an aggregate volume of about $2 billion in Los Angeles County alone, according to JLL. All told during his career, he has been involved in more than $6 billion of investment sales and capital markets transactions.
Office Leasing Veteran Returns to CBRE in New Mexico

Office leasing veteran Scott Whitefield has returned to CBRE in Albuquerque after a stint at rival Colliers. And he brought Shona Martinez with him. Whitefield, who spent nearly the past decade at Colliers, rejoined CBRE as a vice president and Martinez as a senior associate. Whitefield has more than 30 years of industry experience. At Colliers, he most recently served as principal of the company’s New Mexico-El Paso region. During his career, Whitefield has completed transactions involving more than 2.5 million square feet for landlords and tenants in 37 cities across the U.S. and Canada. Before his time at Colliers, Whitefield spent more than six years at CBRE. Martinez has more than 14 years of experience working for commercial real estate and financial services companies in the U.S. and the United Kingdom. During her nearly seven years at Colliers, she worked on lease transactions and property sales in New Mexico involving more than 700,000 square feet of space.
Cresa Adds Finance Veteran to Company Board

Cresa, one of the world's largest occupier-focused commercial property brokerages, appointed finance executive Suellen Ravanas to its board. Ravanas, with experience in the real estate and mergers-and-acquisitions field, will serve on the firm’s finance committee. From November 2016 to November 2020, she served as chief financial officer of the Americas for JLL. She most recently served as global CFO at Circana, formerly IRI, a provider of big data and predictive analytics and has served as chief financial officer of Information Resources, Publicis Worldwide and Leo Burnett. She also worked as a senior director of finance at Pepsico.
“Suellen’s skill and proficiency with board governance and financial acumen will be critical for our next stage of growth,” Cresa CEO Tod Lickerman said in a statement.
Northmarq Hires Industrial, Retail Investment Sales Broker in Charlotte
Northmarq has added Amar Goli to its Charlotte, North Carolina, investment sales team as managing director. Goli is charged with providing clients with investment sales advice and helping to expand Northmarq’s commercial investment sales division in the Carolinas and rest of the mid-Atlantic. Goli, with more than 18 years of commercial real estate experience, specializes in the disposition and sales of investment properties, especially in the industrial and retail sectors. He also focuses on sale-leaseback transactions and the sale of new construction build-to-suit properties and speculative developments. Before he joined Minneapolis-based Northmarq, Goli served as managing director of industrial-retail transaction services and capital markets at Sands Investment Group. At Sands, he oversaw the launch, growth and management of its Charlotte office. Goli also has worked at CBRE and at Stan Johnson Co., which Northmarq acquired in October 2022.
Stream Recruits Industrial Real Estate Pro in Houston

Stream Realty Partners has recruited industrial real estate professional Tommy Erwin, who has a background and experience in working with heavy manufacturing users, to help occupiers with their space requirements across the Houston region. Erwin joined Stream as a vice president in its Houston office, where he will be responsible for industrial tenant representation, transaction management and working to win new clients and business. Stream said his "background in mineral acquisition and divestiture lends him a unique perspective and skillset." He will work closely with managing director Tyler Maner to expand Stream's industrial services footprint in the area, specifically in the Port sector. Erwin spent the past four years at Moody Rambin, where he was a member of its industrial and investment services team and focused on tenant representation, landlord representation and investment services.
