Für das Benchmarking werden Hotelmarken und -ketten in Kettenskalierungen kategorisiert, die primär auf dem durchschnittlichen Zimmerpreis (ADR) des letzten Jahres für das gesamte System basieren. STR hat die Preisbereiche erstellt, die jede Kettenskalierung definieren. Unabhängige Immobilien werden unabhängig vom Preisniveau in einer separaten Kettenskalierungskategorie geführt, die sich von markenspezifischen Gruppen unterscheidet.
