JLL pursues energy client business
Sean Salas joined JLL’s energy advisory and sustainability team as a vice president in Houston. The hire comes as the real estate services firm seeks to increase its regional and national client base amid rising demand for clean-energy real estate and related support systems. Salas is a 12-year industry veteran and will focus on energy-related customer sourcing, property performance and other services related to renewable development, technologies and infrastructure financing, the company said.
JLL said Salas will advise the company’s investment and occupier clients across the Americas. A former diver with the U.S. Navy’s special operations division, Salas joins JLL from Galehead Development, where he worked with operators of utilities, data centers and investment funds.
Newmark expands Arizona, Connecticut teams

Newmark added to its management teams in Arizona and Connecticut. In Phoenix, the brokerage hired Philip Jones as a senior managing director and practice leader for its newly created trusts and estates specialty practice. The company said Jones will head the new group focused on valuation services geared to estate and gift tax planning, succession planning and trust dispute resolution. The 25-year industry veteran joins Newmark from Cushman & Wakefield, where he co-developed the firm’s trust and estates practice.
In Stamford, Connecticut, Brian Carcaterra rejoined Newmark as executive managing director. The firm said he will focus on office tenant and landlord representation in regions such as Fairfield and Westchester counties. Carcaterra started his career in 2003 at Newmark, advising office tenants and landlords in Connecticut, serving later in roles at CBRE and Building and Land Technology.
Stockdale names new executives

Development and investment firm Stockdale Capital Partners hired several new executives, including Bastian Peters as a managing director and co-head of retail asset management. The Los Angeles-based company said Peters will oversee all retail management activities while also playing a key role in sourcing and evaluating potential investments. He previously served in leadership roles at global retail center operator Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, working in Europe and the U.S. on investment and disposition strategies.
Stockdale also hired Sam Palmer, formerly with investment firm Stoneweg U.S., as managing director and head of multifamily asset management. Also joining Stockdale are Kenny Chu, director of tax; Anthony Lumby, vice president of investments; Peter Brogan, vice president of hospitality asset management; Ian Lesyk, vice president of retail asset management; and Erica Ratner, director of retail operations.
DLA Piper expands real estate law team

DLA Piper said Devan Popat joined the global law firm as a partner in its real estate practice, based in Los Angeles. Popat has advised investors, lenders and developers on matters that include joint ventures, acquisition, finance and construction. He regularly represents debt funds, insurance companies and lenders.
The law firm also added Todd Eisner as a partner in its real estate practice in New York City. Eisner has represented institutional investors, private equity sponsors and other real estate stakeholders.
He has worked on joint ventures, acquisitions and financings in multiple property categories. London-based DLA Piper has recently expanded its real estate and other business practices in several U.S. regions.
GLS grows site selection advisory ranks

Phil Schneider joined site selection advisory firm Global Location Strategies, also known as GLS, as a project principal.
Schneider is a 35-year management consulting veteran, handling matters such as site selection, incentive negotiation and economic development planning. GLS is based in Greenville, South Carolina.
Schneider's clients have included companies in the Americas, Asia and Europe. He has consulted firms such as Apple, Google, Johnson & Johnson, Kellogg’s, PayPal and Toyota.
He has also consulted economic development agencies in regions including Northern Ireland, Hong Kong and Ontario, Canada, along with several U.S. state and regional organizations.
