Modest GDP rebound in May dampens hopes of V-shaped recovery

The UK economy returned to growth in May following an unprecedented decline in April, but by less than expected

The UK economy began growing again in May but remains “in the doldrums”, according to a report released today by the Office for National Statistics. Monthly GDP expanded by an estimated 1.8% in May, following an unprecedented 20.4% contraction in April, but the UK economy is still 24.5% smaller than at the dawn of the crisis.
