The Atlanta office of Turner Construction Company was awarded a contract to build a new $55 million courthouse facility for the City of Atlanta in its downtown business district. Construction of the six-story, 200,000-square-foot facility is scheduled for completion in August 2003. The project is being developed by Atlanta Capital Courts Facilities, LLC, (ACCF), which has as its members Turner Construction Company and Atlanta Development Partners, a joint venture comprised of Garfield Corporation, Dallas, and Real Estate Strategies, Inc., Atlanta. ACCF will supervise program management and design-build responsibilities for the project, and also arrange financing assistance. The design build team is Turner/Mitchell/OLH, a joint venture comprised of Turner Construction Company, ER Mitchell Construction Company, Inc., Atlanta, and OLH International, Inc., Atlanta. The architect is Turner Associates Architects and Planners, Atlanta. According to Chief Judge Edward L. Baety, the new courthouse will allow the City Court of Atlanta to operate more effectively. The facility will offer increased security features, advanced technology, larger public waiting areas, customer-friendly creature comforts, expanded space for record storage, and improved accommodations for the disabled. Turner Construction Company is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Turner Corporation, the nation's leading general builder.
