Dermody Properties, a private equity investment company focused on U.S. logistics real estate, is awarding $100,000 to 10 groups as part of the firm's Thanksgiving gift program, its CEO and executive chairman said aims to make a difference in communities where it does business.

The company's senior management picks recipients for the annual Thanksgiving Capstone Award with the overall goal of helping address the increased needs of those at risk, especially during the holidays, the firm said.

“As a company, we support the communities in which we conduct business. This is an integral part of our values,” Dermody Executive Chairman Michael Dermody said in a statement.

Organizations receiving a 2023 Annual Thanksgiving Capstone Award include the Food Bank of Northern Nevada, a nonprofit organization and a member of Feeding America; the 302 Food Rescue Crew, a program of the Food Bank of Delaware, managed by the American Heart Association that works to prevent food from going to waste; and the Atlanta Community Food Bank that seeks to alleviate hunger in Atlanta by educating and empowering the community through partnerships with more 700 nonprofit groups.

Other real estate companies often host food drives around the holiday, including CoStar Group, publisher of CoStar News, which organized a community giving event in Richmond, Virginia, where local employees worked alongside Feed More, a food bank that collects, prepares and distributes food to people in need across Central Virginia.
