Colliers Taps Veteran To Lead a Brokerage in Florida

Colliers U.S. tapped Alexander Evans to serve as managing director and market leader for its brokerage operations in Orlando, Florida. Evans, who has more than 16 years of experience in management and commercial property brokerage and development, joined Colliers from Tricor Realty, an Orlando-based developer, where as senior vice president of leasing, he oversaw leasing and sales for properties across five states. Before working at Tricor, he spent the bulk of his career at Weingarten Realty, where he ultimately served as area vice president for Central and North Florida.

He left Weingarten when Kimco Realty bought it in 2021. In his new role at Colliers, Evans will direct all brokerage operations, recruitment, retention and business development in the Orlando market, Colliers said. He will report to Stephanie Rodriguez, national director of U.S. industrial services and Colliers' executive managing director of Florida. Evans said he looks forward to expanding Colliers' business in Central Florida.

Gensler Appoints Co-Lead in Washington, D.C.

Global architecture and design firm Gensler has appointed Kim Sullivan, a 25-year industry veteran, to serve as co-managing director of its Washington, D.C., office, effective this week. Sullivan will lead the office with co-managing director Francisco Gonzalez, with whom she has worked at Gensler for more than a decade. Sullivan succeeds Theresa Sheils, who will assume her new role as co-regional director of the firm's Asia-Pacific, Middle East region on July 1 in Singapore, Gensler said. Sullivan has experience in the commercial, hospitality and workplace sectors. Gensler has maintained a Washington office for 42 years. The firm recently renewed its office lease for another 10 years at 2020 K St., where it's been since 1997, according to CoStar data.

Monday Properties Hires Asset Management Executive

Real estate development and investment firm Monday Properties has hired Kenny Marines, an industry veteran who's worked at RXR Realty and Tishman Speyer, as senior vice president of asset management. In his new role, Marines will spearhead business development efforts and operational strategies for Monday's office and multifamily portfolios. In addition to overseeing lease-up, operations and marketing strategies for the company's multifamily projects, Marines will analyze portfolio performance, direct capital improvement projects and support acquisition efforts. Before he joined Monday, Marines held corporate leadership roles at RXR Realty and Tishman Speyer, where he played a significant role in developing asset management platforms and business plans. “When looking at the current national and local capital markets landscapes we anticipate a multitude of appealing prospects" with which Marines can help, Monday's founding and managing partner Anthony Westreich said in a statement.

Simon Property CEO Undergoes Cancer Treatment

Simon Property Group Chairman, CEO and President David Simon is "undergoing therapeutic treatment for cancer," the world's largest retail real estate investment trust said last week in a Securities and Exchange Commission filing. Simon Property did not reveal any other details about Simon's illness but said he "intends to continue to serve" in his leadership positions during the course of his treatment. Simon, 62, has served as Simon Property chairman since 2007, CEO of the REIT or its predecessor since 1995 and as president since February 2019.

In the same SEC filing, Simon Property said shareholders of Class B common stock elected David Simon's son, Eli Simon, to the REIT's board as a director. The younger Simon serves as Simon Property's vice president of corporate investments.

VanTrust Adds Development Director in Phoenix

National development firm VanTrust Real Estate has added Derek Flottum, an industry veteran with more than 10 years of experience in Arizona, as senior director of development for its Southwest Region. Flottum, based in Phoenix, will manage existing industrial and office projects and work to expand Kansas City, Missouri-based VanTrust’s presence in the Southwest, the company said.

Flottum joined VanTrust from Opus Group, where he served as a vice president and spearheaded the developer's Phoenix-area industrial and multifamily business, from new site identification and financial structuring to the construction and sales of projects. Before that, he worked as a development executive at Milwaukee-based real estate developer Irgens. He started his career in banking and most recently served as president of Enterprise Bank & Trust in that industry.

Citymark Appoints Head of Capital Raising

Citymark Capital, a Cleveland-based real estate private equity firm, has appointed Kevin Ryan as managing director and head of capital raising and client solutions. In his new role, Ryan, who has more than 20 years of experience in institutional debt, equity and public and private real estate, will be responsible for spearheading capital formation and investor engagement at Citymark, the company said. He joined Citymark from Manulife Investment Management, where he led capital raising and investor relations for its $18 billion real estate debt and equity group. Prior to Manulife, he served as a managing director at Barings, a subsidiary of Mass Mutual, where he oversaw product management, public relations, and investor relations for Barings' real estate equity platform, which has over $17 billion of assets under management. He also has worked at Adelante Capital Management, Lend Lease Real Estate Investments and Federated Investors. Ryan's relationships and "capital markets experience will expand our investor base who will benefit from attractive investment opportunities" Citymark founder and CEO Daniel Walsh said in a statement.

NewMark Merrill Promotes Veteran Property Manager

NewMark Merrill Cos., a Calabasas, California-based shopping center owner and developer, has promoted Chuck Moore to regional property manager. Moore previously served as senior property manager and property manager during his nine years at NewMark Merrill. In his new role, Moore will oversee the management of more than 1.5 million square feet of commercial real estate in San Diego County, including Piazza Carmel and Grand Plaza. Moore began his real estate career managing small retail centers, industrial parks and office buildings, and his "experience in these areas laid a solid foundation for his understanding of property management, contributing to his expertise and success in managing larger commercial properties within NewMark Merrill Companies," the firm said.
