Alex Stork is settling into his new surroundings after being appointed the British Council for Offices's Northern region chair.
Stork, the business development manager for the northern division of fit-out specialist Overbury, takes over from Jon Moister, executive director of engineering consultancy Curtins, who held the role since the end of 2021.
The fit-out specialist was vice-chair of the BCO’s Northern regional committee, having joined the organisation providing best practice for workplace design at the end of 2020.
Stork said in a statement: "The BCO is a beacon for the very best workplace practices and I’m keen to ensure we continue highlighting the exemplary workplaces in our region.
"In my time as chair, we’ll aim to further develop our measure of success on buildings, based on how they support diversity, inclusion and strong occupation rates.
"Ultimately, healthy, well-occupied buildings encourage critical mass and investment in our region’s towns and cities, which supports everyone through local economic growth."
Departing chair Moister said: "Alex has provided significant support and leadership to the Northern committee in his previous role as vice chair. I am delighted to pass the mantle to him during this exciting time for the BCO."
The new vice-chair will be Clare Danahay of architect firm Will + Partners, a current committee member and contributor to the BCO’s forthcoming Guide to Fit Out paper. Her experience in design spans almost 30 years.
The appointments follow the naming of Peter Crowther as BCO president in June, having also represented the group's Northern region committee. He told CoStar News in an interview the forum considered AI and retrofit as possible solutions to the challenges facing workplaces.
