They finally pulled it off. After years of chasing rival Deutsche Wohnen and trying to lure its shareholders to agree to a takeover by Vonovia, both companies agreed to merge on 24 May 2021. For Vonovia this was a massive milestone with the combined portfolio approaching €100 billion exactly 20 years after it was founded as a private equity backed investor.
