The Building Industry and Land Development Association bestowed its highest honour on Metropia founder and CEO Howard Sokolowski in recognition of his dedication to the group and industry.
Sokolowski earned the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Building Industry and Land Development Association, also known as BILD. The association said in a statement that "Sokolowski has been at the forefront of Canada’s development industry for over 30 years, leading the development of over 40,000 homes between Metropia and Tribute Communities, and receiving some of the industry’s highest honours."
BILD also highlighted his "commitment to quality construction and exceptional customer care, plus a natural ability to identify emerging market trends."
BILD presented 50 awards in architecture, design, marketing, people and sales, and the project and builder categories. A group of 51 judges across North America picked the winners from over 700 submitted entries.
Sokolowski founded Tribute Communities with Al Libfeld more than 40 years ago. Together, they built 25,000 homes. In 2009, Sokolowski left Tribute and launched Toronto-based Metropia. The firm has since been involved in 15 projects and built 14,000 units.
In an email to CoStar News, Sokolowski called the award an incredible honour.
"I'm humbled to be recognized by an industry I've dedicated my entire life to — and to be counted among leaders who've also shaped the fabric of this city. This award is a real recognition of how far Metropia has come and all the opportunities that lie ahead," he said.
