JLL's Chris Mulcahy will retire from his role as lead director for Manchester office agency next year after more than two decades at the helm, with James Devany taking over.

Devany is national office agency director and has been part of that team for 11 years. The firm said he brings extensive experience of the region's market.

Mulcahy led the team for 25 years, "playing a pivotal role in shaping Manchester’s commercial property landscape through a series of landmark developments", the firm said.

He has also advised on major occupier moves involving Bank of New York Mellon, HMRC, British Telecom, Roku, Addleshaw Goddard, Clyde & Co and the General Medical Council, among others, it added.

Mulcahy said in a statement: "It’s been a real privilege to work alongside so many great clients, colleagues and consultants over the years. I’ve been fortunate to play a part in some incredible schemes that have transformed the city.

"The time feels right to hand over the reins, and I’m really proud that our succession plan sees James step into the lead role.

"He’s someone I’ve worked closely with for over a decade, and I have every confidence in him and the team to keep driving things forward."

Devany said: "Chris has set an incredible benchmark and helped build one of the most respected teams in the market. I’m excited to continue that legacy with our brilliant team and valued clients.

"Manchester has changed so much in recent years – it’s now arguably the most exciting office market outside London, and with some major new developments on the horizon, I’m confident the best is still to come."

Jonathan Wiedemann, head of Manchester office and head of Regional Office Agency, added: "Chris’s contribution to JLL and to the wider city region has been immense.

"He’s been central to some of the most significant developments in the city and has always led with integrity, professionalism and a genuine passion for Manchester.

"James has been a key part of that journey, and his promotion is richly deserved. He brings energy, insight and continuity, and we’re all looking forward to this next chapter."

In April JLL promoted Matt Richards to leader of the United Kingdom business following the departure of Stephanie Hyde, who left to pursue other opportunities.
