Knight Frank Partner Scales 5,000-Metre Antarctic Mountain for Charity
Although some parts of the UK have experienced snowfall over the past couple of weeks, the temperatures won't have been as harsh as those experienced by Knight Frank partner Josh Braid who took part in an expedition to the South Pole recently. The head of its Central London retail agency team climbed a circa 5,000-metre mountain and skied across the Antarctic wilderness to raise funds for Rockinghorse Children’s Charity and Kidscape.
Braid left the UK on 12 December last year, aiming to climb Mount Vinson, the highest peak in Antarctica measuring 4,892 metres and achieved the goal on Christmas Eve. He then trekked across the Antarctic to reach the Geographical South Pole days later, stopping briefly for a cooked breakfast a few hundreds metres away from the checkpoint.
Speaking to CoStar News after his epic challenge, Braid spoke about some traits needed to get to the South Pole and work in commericial real estate. "For the challenge you had to be pretty well prepared, getting all the equipment and doing all the training, and you have to be resilient", he said. "It is a bit like in development, it can take a long time [to see through to the end], so there are some synergies there. You can have all the best preparation but you don't know quite literally what the headwinds will be."
