A Southern California volleyball team headed by Duncan Backus, an associate with Lyon Stahl, and Northmarq broker Parker Boehle is approaching dynasty status in the region.
The team, named Lyon Stahl after the brokerage firm based in the area of El Segundo, captured the 2023 Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament for the second consecutive year in August. Last year, the team won the two-day tournament that played next to the Manhattan Beach Pier.
The Lyon Stahl volleyball team, pictured, is made up of players who work for the company as well as other commercial real estate pros and friends of Lyon Stahl. Besides Backus and Boehle, the team includes Mike Fisher, an associate with CBRE, and Mitch Stahl, who participated on the U.S. national team in the 2020 Olympics. Mitch Stahl is not related to Woody Stahl, co-founder of Lyon Stahl.
The tournament is named for Charlie Saikley, who ran the Manhattan Beach Open volleyball tournament for years. When Saikley died at age 69 in 2005, an Associated Press story said his nickname was the Godfather of Beach Volleyball.
Lyon Stahl is ready to three-peat, according to a post on the brokerage's website. "With their sights set on next year’s tournament, Lyon Stahl is excited to continue their 6-man legacy!" the firm said.
