Canada’s housing woes can be viewed as a microcosm of a global issue

Urbanization, geopolitical instability and climate change are catalysts for housing crises around the world

Since 2007, when urban populations first overtook rural ones on a global scale, the world has experienced a 17% increase in population. This growth has been driven almost exclusively by urban areas, which have increased by roughly 33% while rural populations have remained largely unchanged. In addition to other factors, including wealth inequality, this shift has contributed to housing crises in many major cities worldwide.
