1. Procaccianti Companies buys Charleston Harbor Resort
Real estate investment and services firm Procaccianti Companies and joint venture partner Rugger Capital bought the 217-key Charleston Harbor Resort in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, according to a news release. TPG Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Procaccianti Companies, will manage operations at the resort.
CoStar data shows the deal included the 125-key Harborside At Charleston Harbor Resort and the 92-key Beach Club At Charleston Harbor Resort for a combined $112.5 million.
Procaccianti is planning a comprehensive renovation and repositioning in the coming months, according to the release.
Suntex Marinas acquired the adjacent Charleston Harbor Marina, which has more than 450 slips for vessels ranging in size from recreational cruisers to superyachts.
2. Booking loses EU case over ETraveli deal
Booking Holdings lost its case against the European Union's antitrust veto of its €1.63 billion ($1.90 billion) ETraveli acquisition in 2023, Reuters reports. Booking said it may appeal to Europe's top court, the European Court of Justice.
"We're incredibly disappointed. We disagree with the outcome and remain firmly of the view that the [European] Commission's assessment was wrong, both on the facts and on the law," a Booking spokesperson told Reuters.
In the European Commission's 2023 veto, it said the ETraveli deal would have left Booking's rivals unable to compete, according to the article.
3. How the focus on profits is changing hotel commercial strategy
Hotel owners are increasingly looking at their profits, a shift away from prioritizing top-line revenue, and that's leading to a change in commercial strategy, said Priya Chandnani, group senior vice president of sales, revenue and distribution strategy at Sage Hospitality.
"Never before has it become more important for us to not only envision what does top-line strategy look like, but how does that tie into profitability?" Chandnani said on the most recent episode of the "CoStar News Hotels" podcast, recorded at the 2026 Hotel Data Conference. "And who better to do it than people who only look at this all day long? So, I think it's exciting times to say 'OK, what paths do we want to go? Do we want to build out depth in profitability or do we want to scale around the commercial space or maybe both?'"
4. Hurricane Lowell leaves thousands of Hawaiians without power
The center of Hurricane Lowell passed to the west of the Hawaiian islands on Tuesday, but the strong winds from the storm still caused heavy damage, NBC News reports. The Kaua'i Island Utility Cooperative said nearly all of its members were without power.
Kalohe Kapu, a resident of Kalaheo on Kaua'i, told Kaua'i Now that high waves came through the first floor of the Sheraton Resort Kaua'i, the Kūhiō Shores Vacation Rentals and through the homes in front of Brennecke's Beach and the Beach House Restaurant. There's also no access available to Lawai Beach Resort or Kukui'ula Harbor.
5. Air traffic control problem cancels over 1,000 flights in UK
A problem with the U.K.'s National Air Traffic Services' flight processing system led to the cancellation of more than 1,000 flights on Tuesday, the Associated Press reports. The problem has been resolved, but resulting delays spread across 15 U.K. airports trying to clear a backlog of flights.
British Airways had to cancel or divert more than 100 flights, and Ryanair canceled more than 50 flights, disrupting more than 65,000 passengers. EasyJet said some flights were "unable to operate," and the system failure led to flight delays across Europe.
