Shura Island opens Edition
The 240-room The Red Sea Edition opened on Aug. 19 in the Saudi Arabian destination of Shura Island on the Red Sea. Owned by the Red Sea Global Co. and part of Marriott International, the hotel includes 53 suites.
Rosewood debuts in Saudi Arabia’s Triple Bay
The 110-room Rosewood Amaala opened in Triple Bay on the western coast of Saudi Arabia on Aug. 19. As with The Red Sea Edition, it, too, is owned by the Red Sea Global Co.
Taj announces first Continental Europe hotel
Taj Hotels & Resorts, part of Indian Hotels Corp. Ltd., opened its first hotel on the mainland of Europe, the Taj Hessischer Hof, Frankfurt. Following a renovation of its former guise as the Hotel Hessischer Hof, it now has 126 rooms, not 121. Peakside Capital Advisors acquired the hotel in 2022 from the House of Hesse, a royal and aristocratic family.
Fontenille enters Burgundy
Lauris, France-based Fontenille Collection opened an asset for the first time in the French region of Burgundy. Its Château de Cîteaux has cellars dating from the 12th century, and the château, in the village of Meursault, dates to 1865. Already open are 18 rooms and suites in the château itself, while 17 will open early next year in the restored buildings of its Vieux-Clos (old, walled vineyard, in English).
... and Chapter enters Chianti
Similarly inspired by a wine region, Chapter Hotels Italia has opened a hotel in the Italian vineyard area of Chianti. The 82-room Chapter Chianti, just outside the village of Montegonzi, occupies a 17th Century borgo, or fortified hamlet, covering 50 acres. Design Hotels markets the property.
Hyatt takes over Berlin’s Hotel Palace
Hyatt Hotels Corporation has entered into a franchise agreement with “one of its affiliates” for the 278-room Hyatt Regency Palace Berlin, which is due to go through a renovation and open in early 2027. The property previously was the independent Hotel Palace Berlin.
Faroe Islands opens Borðoy hotel
The opening of the 83-room KG Hotel Klaksvík marks the Faroe Islands’ first upscale hotel outside of the capital, Tórshavn. The hotel is on an island called Borðoy, which has eight villages, the largest being Klaksvík. The hotel is part of Nordic Hotels & Resorts, owned by the Strawberry Group.
IHG signs first Noted Collection in Saudi Arabia
IHG Hotels & Resorts and Morina Development & Investment Co. LLC signed a franchise agreement with Region Hotel Co. to open the 107-room Cantonal Hotel Riyadh Noted Collection by IHG, the first of the brand in the Middle East. The hotel, to be in the Saudi Arabian capital’s Al Olaya commercial district, is to open by the end of the year.
First Sponsor acquires Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht
Singapore-based developer First Sponsor Group has put together a consortium and acquired the 122-room Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht from Invesco Real Estate’s European Hotel Fund for €93.5 million ($109 million) or €766,000 ($894,000) per room. First Sponsor is the majority owner with a 33% stake. Hyatt Hotels Corporation is to operate the property under a long-term lease until 2042.
Starboard opens Birmingham AC hotel
Following a £4 million ($5.4 million) renovation, Starboard Hotels has opened the AC Hotel by Marriott Birmingham National Exhibition Centre & Airport. Its previous guise until May of this year was as an Ibis Styles hotel, part of Accor. It has 169 rooms, up from 166 when it temporarily closed.
Luura introduces Paris hotel, its first asset
Luxury hotel firm Luura opened its first hotel, Luura Paros Cliff on the Greek island of Paros. Its 39 keys are all suites, half of which have private pools. Luura has a pipeline of two additional hotels, one in Athens and another on Paros. The operator of the hotel is Ennismore, the hotel being within its Morgan Original’s brand.
Tivoli goes to Lecce
Tivoli Hotels & Resorts opened the 48-room Tivoli Palazzo 1880 Lecce Hotel, its debut in Puglia. The hotel is in a building dating, as the hotel’s name suggests, to 1880. The owner is Otranto, Italy-based Gest Resort SRL, which acquired the property in October 2025 for approximately €19 million.
Thompson to open second hotel in Spain
Another Hyatt brand, Thompson Hotels, is to move into the Spanish province of Andalucia by the end of the year with the 101-room Thompson Seville, which occupies the city’s La Gavidia building on the Plaza de la Concordia. Its other Spanish hotel is the Thompson Madrid. Two Spanish investment firms, Exacorp One and Grupo Baraka, own the Sevilla hotel in a holding vehicle, Hotel Color Especial.
Erzsébet Budapest joins Radisson soft brand
Radisson Hotels & Resorts signed the 126-room Hotel Erzsébet Budapest to its soft brand Radisson Individuals. Hungarian management firm Danubius Hotels is to operate the hotel.
London tends to Shepherd Mayfair
Boutique hotel Shepherd Mayfair opened in London on Sept. 1 on a property dating to 1618. Shepherds once lived on the property, although the 82-room hotel is named for the architect, Edward Shepherd, who built a home on the site. Hoteliers claim the premises — much transformed — is the oldest property block in the Mayfair district of London and once held the festivities of the May Fair, which gives the area its name.
Lalique c’est chic in Zurich
London-based Lalique Hospitality debuted in Zurich with the 13-room Villa Florhof, which sits between the Swiss city’s districts of Old Town and Hochschulquartier, or University Quarter.
