Twin Cities population growth moderates in 2025, still outpaces national average

International migration retreats from record levels while domestic migration turns sharply positive, with suburban counties driving the expansion

The Twin Cities metropolitan area added about 29,400 residents between July 2024 and July 2025, according to the latest population estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau. That’s slower than the 39,121 people added in 2024, a seven-year high, and slightly below the pre-pandemic annual average of roughly 30,600 residents in the 2010s.
