Target Corp. (NYSE: Target) held the grand opening of 45 new Target stores on Sunday, Oct. 12 in AK (2), AZ, CA (9), CO, CT (3), FL, GA (2), IL, IN, KS, MD (2), MA, MI (2), MN (2), NV, NJ (2), NY (2), OK, PA (2), SD, TX (3), VA, WA and WI. The openings include Target's first stores in Alaska and brings Target to 1,685 stores in 48 states. The Minnesota stores are Target's debut of its newest store prototype. The 186,000-square-foot Super Target in Ostego, MN is about 12,000 square feet bigger than Target's existing average Super Target; and a store in Waconia, MN exemplifies the retailer's new general merchandise prototype -- at 132,400 square feet it is about 6,000 square feet larger than current stores. Target plans to roll out these new prototypes in at least 100 stores next year. The new prototypes are LEED-certified.
