On May 13, 2008, retail and mixed-use developer, Westrust, celebrated the opening of 10 anchor retailers at The Plant, a 646,000-square-foot power center in San Jose. The $142 million center is located on the 55.4-acre former site of a General Electric Motor Plant, at the corner of Curtner Avenue and Monterey Road, off Highway 87 in San Jose. The Plant's 500,000 square feet of anchor tenants includes Target, Home Depot, Best Buy, PetSmart, Ross Dress for Less, Off Broadway Shoes, Office Max, Alta and a 64,000-square-foot Babies 'R' Us/Toys 'R' Us combo concept. Central to The Plant is a 2,000-square-foot community center and a Town Square with a central park, restaurants and boutiques. Pedestrian walkways are surrounded by generous landscaping and complement outdoor dining. Pacific Coast Capital Partners and Vornado Realty Trust are partners with Westrust on The Plant. Under the direction of Sean Whiskeman, managing director of leasing for Westrust, Sandy Berry and Danielle Bromstead of Cornish and Carey Commercial in Santa Clara serve as exclusive leasing agents for The Plant.
