CoStar News reporter Lou Hirsh was recognized as a finalist for writing the best online business story last year by the Los Angeles Press Club.

He was selected for a story showing how the Olympic Games have shifted from a celebration of sport and international pride to a financial contest in which cities seeking an opportunity at economic development square off in a costly contest that has often left the winning city with losses. In “Los Angeles Aims for No-Build 2028 Olympics,” Hirsh analyzed how real estate development increasingly lies at the heart of both the selection of host cities — and the losses many are left with when the crowds go home.

Hirsh, based in San Diego, is one of five finalists in the online business category; the award is to be announced later this month. He writes about commercial real estate for CoStar News, a news organization that specializes in the coverage of commercial real estate in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom. CoStar News is published by CoStar Group, the largest provider of commercial real estate information.
