JLL Capital Markets has hired a former principal with Avison Young as it looks to deepen its bench of retail capital markets advisors serving the mid-Atlantic region.

Dean Sands joined the company's Retail Investment Sales and Advisory Team in Washington, D.C., as a managing director. He will report to Andrew Weir and Jamie Leachman, senior managing directors and co-heads of the firm's D.C. office, and work with fellow Managing Directors Jordan Lex and Bill Moylan as well as Director Danny Naughton.

Sands joins the firm after spending the last two years with Avison Young where he focused on retail investment sales. Last year, Sands was part of the team that represented The Halle Cos. in its $100 million sale of the Kingstowne Shopping Center in Alexandria, Virginia, a deal that was recognized by CoStar Group, the publisher of CoStar News, as one of the largest sales in the third quarter in the Washington area.
