Major regional housebuilder Thakeham has appointed Alastair Skinner as its first chief investment officer, joining after eight years at family property group Hargreaves.

Skinner will support the executive and management teams, with the firm adding that it created the role to "supervise and guide" its growth strategy. He will also oversee asset allocation and risk management decisions.

Skinner was managing director of Hargreaves Group, overseeing its transition from founder-run to executive management. He was also the first non-family member to hold the position of managing director.

Rob Boughton, chief executive at Thakeham, said in a statement: "We welcome Alastair to our executive team as a new set of hands to support Thakeham during an important time for the business. This role will assist our strategic vision to delivering a number of projects, that we believe will set the benchmark for sustainable development."

Thakeham, operating mainly in the south of England, works across strategic land, new homes and partnerships and has pledged that the homes it builds will be net zero carbon in lifetime operation from 2025.
