Swiss company acquires Marriott near Monaco

In March, Switzerland’s Achernar Assets AG acquired the 186-room Riviera Marriott Hotel La Porte de Monaco in the French Côte d’Azur town of Cap d’Ail near the border of Monaco. According to CoStar data, the acquisition price was approximately £71.4 million ($94.5 million) or approximately £384,000 per key.

Tivoli opens hotel in Porto

Tivoli Hotels & Resorts, part of Minor International, has opened the Tivoli Kopke Porto Gaia Hotel in Porto, Portugal. The hotel is notable for being a restoration of one of the oldest port-wine houses in the city, with its grounds containing three distinct terraced areas — Tawny, Vintage and White — that replicate the vineyards of the Douro Valley. The hotel has retained and renovated the wine cellars of the former occupant, which started business in 1638.

IHG opening Hotel Indigo in Devon

IHG Hotels & Resorts and owner The Fragrance Group have signed the 153-room Hotel Indigo Torquay in Devon, England, and which will open in the second half of this year. It will join the IHG brand’s 19 open and six other pipeline hotels in the U.K. and Ireland.

Fergus opens resort in Ibiza

On May 15, Fergus Hotels opened the Fergus Style Punta Arabi in Es Canar, Ibiza. Fergus has nearly 19,000 hotel and resort rooms in Spain, in the Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Andalusia and Catalunya regions.

Hyatt debuts Hyatt Regency brand in Croatia

Hyatt Hotels Corp. debuted in Croatia with the May 15 opening of the 133-room Hyatt Regency Zadar, a simple stroll from the UNESCO-listed old town section of Zadar. The owner is local firm Doğuş Croatia.

Aimbridge opens Four Points by Sheraton in eastern Spain

Third-party hotel-management company Aimbridge Hospitality EMEA has opened the 402-room Four Points by Sheraton Costa Blanca near Benidorm, Spain. More than 50 of the rooms have a private pool.

NCalma Hotels to debut Ibiza resort

Next month, NCalma Hotels plans to open the 252-room O Beach Ibiza. Located on San Antonio Bay on Ibiza in the Balearic Islands, the hotel is a sibling to the 99-room Nativo Hotel Ibiza and 144-room Aguas de Ibiza Grand Luxe.

Whitbread acquires demolished hotel site in Cumbia, North England

Whitbread, the parent company of the Premier Inn chain, has agreed terms with Cumberland Council and the Crown Estate to acquire the site of the former, demolished Central Plaza Hotel in Carlisle, Cumbria, North England. The site is due to have a Premier Inn hotel with 104 rooms, whereas the original hotel had 84.

Meliá signs hotel in Sardinia

Meliá Hotels International has announced the signing of the 152-room Hotel Corte Rosada, which is due to open in summer 2025 in Alghero, Sardinia.

Rosewood Hotels & Resorts debuts in The Netherlands

On May 1, Rosewood Hotels & Resorts opened its first hotel in The Netherlands with the 134-room Rosewood Amsterdam. Rosewood says the hotel is the "final new development to be permitted within a monument" following legislation to curb hospitality offerings in the heart of the Dutch city.

LXR Hotels & Resorts debuts in France

Hilton’s LXR Hotels & Resorts brand debuted in France with the April opening of 118-room Sax Paris, now the Sax Paris LXR Hotels & Resorts, in the city’s 7th Arrondissement. The owner is Paris-based Compagnie de Phalsbourg.

SLS Barcelona now open

SLS Hotels & Residences has welcomed its first guests to its 471-room hotel, SLS Barcelona, the firm’s debut in Europe. The owner is Activum SG Capital Management.

IHG brings Candlewood Suites to Europe

IHG will debut its Candlewood Suites brand in Europe with the Candlewood Suites Berlin Charlottenburg, which will be part of a dual-brand property along with its sibling Holiday Inn, The Niu Flash. Part of IHG’s 2024 development agreement with owner Novum Hospitality, it will be the first of six Candlewood Suites to open in Germany in 2025.

IHG to debut Even hotel brand in Saudi Arabia

IHG has also agreed with owner Marassi Al Bahr Development Co., part of Al Khaldi Holding, to open the 300-room Even Hotel Dammam, Saudi Arabia, in Jan. 2029.

Dalata Hotel Group to open Madrid hotel

Irish firm Dalata Hotel Group will debut in Spain in 2029 with the 243-room Clayton Hotel Madrid. Located in the Valdebebas district of the Spanish capital adjacent to the city’s international airport, the hotel also will be the third hotel from Dalata in mainland Europe.

Minor Hotels plans United Arab Emirates resort

In 2028, Minor Hotels and owner Al Fahim plan to open the 232-room Avani+ Fujairah Resort in Fujairah, United Arab Emirates, on the Gulf of Oman.
