Savills has today confirmed that Jeremy Bates has decided to step back from his executive responsibilities and will be retiring this summer after almost 38 years at the broker.
Bates, one of the United Kingdom's best-known real estate advisers, joined as a graduate in autumn of 1988, and initially worked within City offices before moving to the Business Space team. He went on to lead the division in the United Kingdom over almost 15 years.
Bates was also heavily involved in building relationships in North America, firstly identifying United States associates but later through the acquisition of Studley, which is now Savills North America, assisting with the formation of Savills global occupier service to major corporates.
During his time at Savills, he has held senior positions on the Boards of both the United Kingdom and EME businesses, providing strategic leadership and mentoring to occupational markets teams in office, industrial and retail, as well as growing Workthere, Savills Science and Data Centres. He has also supported a number of key client relationships and has remained active in the transactional markets.
James Sparrow, CEO of Savills United Kingdom and Europe, the Middle East and Africa, said in a statement that he's one of the United Kingdom "business’s longest serving members and we are extremely grateful to him for his commitment to Savills, and the leadership and strategic direction he has given to many across the business. We are delighted he remains available to the business as a consultant.”
Bates added: "Whilst I am pleased to continue as a consultant to Savills, I am also looking forward to embracing new challenges. “
