With mounting concerns and cancellations resulting from the rapidly spreading coronavirus outbreak, economists were eager to gauge the impact on consumer sentiment. But while a dip was widely expected, the preliminary March 2020 release of the University of Michigan’s consumer sentiment index dropped by a less-than-expected 5.1 points to 95.9.
