La Petite Academy Inc., the nation's largest privately held early childhood education company, moved its headquarters from Overland Park, KS to 130 South Jefferson St. in downtown Chicago. As the anchor tenant to the property, also known as the Glessner Center, La Petite Academy will occupy a total of 25,454 square feet. The firm leased 15,370 square feet on the 3rd floor and 10,084 square feet on the 4th floor. The Glessner Center was built in 1883, renovated into loft space in 1985, and sold in 2000 to Loft Development for almost $7 million. Pat Janda and Dan Kaplan of Loft Development did the in-house representation. ChicagoBroker.com executive vice president Chris Rogala represented La Petite Academy. La Petite has been based in Kansas since it was founded in 1970, but the first La Petite Academy was opened in Illinois. Now there are 25 Chicagoland locations. The new Chicago headquarters will house over 100 associates, most of who will be recruited from the Chicago area. According to La Petite president and CEO Judith Rogala, Chicago provided the proper combination of a central location with a diverse labor pool.
