The Perform Properties team that oversees marketing and events at a popular mall that's on the market in New York’s Flushing neighborhood is set to hold a graduation of sorts for shoppers this holiday weekend.
The Shops at Skyview in downtown Flushing, Queens, plans to wrap up its four-week "Skyview High" series of events Saturday with an invite-only commencement celebration set to include an appearance by K-pop artist Kang Daniel, who recently was ranked No. 1 on the South Korean reality talent competition show "Produce 101." Invites will be sent to loyal shoppers who participated in several events in the series over the past month.
Because Kang is known for wearing "his signature school uniform — something that resonates with people from countries such as South Korea, Japan, China and the Philippines, where wearing a school uniform is a cherished part of growing up," Perform Properties regional marketing manager Wesley Sin said, attendees are encouraged to wear school uniforms to the commencement.
Perform Properties is a Blackstone company, and this summer, the investment giant brought the roughly 560,000-square-foot, multi-level mall that is fully leased to the market. Blackstone expects to get a price of $450 million, a person familiar with the situation told CoStar News. Newmark is marketing the mall for sale.
The events Sin and his team have created at Shops at Skyview have been recognized for their effectiveness by ICSC, or the International Council of Shopping Centers, and established the mall as "a vital community hub," according to Newmark.
