JLL has hired a 20-year healthcare operations veteran to lead a team that works with medical clients on facility management and accreditation as it looks to grow its business in the sector.
The real estate services firm appointed Justin Marcoux to senior director of healthcare compliance services. In his new role, Marcoux will be responsible for the development and implementation of compliance strategies, including creating policies, procedures and tools, Chicago-based JLL said. Marcoux will also work closely with clients to support healthcare facilities navigate complex standards, regulations and requirements.
Marcoux has more than 20 years of leadership experience in healthcare regulatory compliance, facilities management and operational strategy. Most recently, he served as the senior director of healthcare facilities operations and solutions development at French food services and facilities management giant Sodexo. He is based in West Palm Beach, Florida.
"Healthcare organizations today face unprecedented regulatory pressures while trying to deliver exceptional patient care," Marcoux said in the statement. "My goal is to help our clients establish robust compliance programs that not only meet regulatory requirements but enhance operational efficiency and financial performance."
JLL said its compliance team helps healthcare facilities comply with the physical environment standards and codes adopted by organizations such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Being compliant directly impacts a hospital's accreditation and eligibility for service reimbursement. This includes "ensuring the hospital buildings and care environments meet required safety and operational standards," JLL said. While Marcoux's responsibilities extend to any new physical spaces within a facility, his focus is "on the built environment where care is delivered rather than administrative expansion approvals or certificate of need processes," according to the firm.
Moreover, Marcoux said in an email that healthcare facilities being compliant ensures patients receive care in safe environments that are free from preventable hazards.
"For example, when a hospital regularly tests and maintains its fire safety systems, patients and staff can be protected or 'sheltered in place' or, if necessary, quickly evacuated during an emergency, potentially saving lives," he said. "This protection is essential to a healthcare facility's mission of healing and building trust with the community it serves."
JLL's healthcare compliance services group is part of the company's Healthcare Work Dynamics division. It provides accreditation support, consulting services and facility management strategies for clients.
