Colliers expands multifamily team

Shane Shafer joined Colliers as an executive vice president in the firm’s Orange County, California, office in Irvine. The company said Shafer, who has two decades of industry experience, has been involved in closing more than $6 billion in multifamily transactions. He joined Colliers from Northmarq, where he led the Southern California multifamily investment sales team. Before that, he was a partner at Berkadia.

Shafer’s hiring comes as Colliers seeks to “propel our capital markets and multifamily footprint in key growth markets,” including Southern California, West region President David Josker said in a statement.

Bell Partners appoints customer service executive

Apartment investment and management company Bell Partners appointed Sparkle Mixson as senior vice president of customer experience and marketing. She's based in Atlanta. Mixson joined Greensboro, North Carolina-based Bell from single-family rental firm First Key Homes, where she worked for eight years, most recently as senior vice president of marketing and brand experience.

In her new role, Bell said Mixson, who has more than 20 years of industry experience, will lead efforts that also include brand development and digital engagement across its nationwide apartment portfolio. The company operates nine regional offices and manages about 90,000 apartments in 12 U.S. regions.

JLL promotes consumer goods director

JLL promoted Justin Sandherr to managing director in its consumer goods and services practice. The firm said Sandherr, who's based in New York City, will lead client efforts including workplace and facilities management related to office, retail, manufacturing and other industrial buildings.

Sandherr has been with JLL for nine years, serving most recently as segment lead for consumer products. The real estate services firm said its recent national surveys found consumer goods and services organizations are primarily focused on improved reporting, data accuracy enhancements and cost reductions related to their real estate usage.

Berkadia hires launch capital group

Berkadia formed a new national strategic capital group, led by senior managing directors Gordon Reynolds and Brian Myers and Vice President Conner Adkins. Reynolds is based in Baltimore, while Myers and Adkins are based in Dallas.

The real estate services firm said all three are industry veterans who worked together most recently in the investment banking division of CBRE, where they executed transactions across multiple property categories.

The hires come as Berkadia seeks to expand its private-capital finance services in tandem with the firm’s various other business lines.

The new practice will serve domestic and global institutional investors, among other clients, and work with affiliated firms such as Jefferies Financial Group and Knight Frank.

Premier names new brokerage executive

Premier Commercial Real Estate Services hired Jonathan Hardy as an executive vice president. The Indianapolis-based company said Hardy will lead and train the firm’s brokerage team, among other duties. The industry veteran held prior leadership positions at CBRE, Coldwell Banker Commercial and most recently at Bradley Co., where he represented global and regional firms.

Hardy also founded Venture Hydra, a firm that focused on distressed properties. Premier Commercial handles services including landlord and tenant representation, development and property management. The 20-year-old company is part of TCN Worldwide, a global consortium of independent commercial real estate firms.
