Supermarket retailer Morrisons has recruited a former Aldi regional logistics director of 20 years.

Andy Gillies left Aldi in 2016 after more than 20 years at Morrisons, joining food and beverage manufacturing group Greencore that year to be the firm's business unit director, before progressing to logistics director in 2022.

After almost nine years with Greencore he becomes logistics director at Morrisons, bringing more than 30 years' experience in retail and logistics to the grocery brand. Morrisons described the recruit, who is based in Leicestershire, as key in helping Aldi shape its logistics network during his time with the firm.

Gillies said in a statement on LinkedIn: "I’m really pleased to join such an iconic British retailer. Grocery is a tough and competitive sector, and with my team, my responsibility will be to deliver great service and availability to our stores, while finding operational efficiencies to reduce cost. I can’t wait to get started."

Around a year ago the national supermarket agreed a £331 million sale-and-leaseback of its stores to help reduce its debt pile, selling 76 of its stores as part of a ground rent financing transaction, then leasing the stores back from the owners.
