Amazon Fulfilment Centre Gives Area Economic Boost After Four Years in the Making

Building an 850,000-square-foot fulfilment centre off Moss Lane turned out to be a four-year project, but it has been worth the wait as it has given the area an economic boost.

It began with the acquisition of the 37-acre site at Knowsley Business Park in 2018 and ended with the leasing to Amazon. The project resulted in a landmark development on the well-established Knowsley Business Park, earning a CoStar Impact Award.

The scheme was developed by PLP, through its UKLV1 fund, into the above Macquarie Capital, Peel Group and Ivanhoé Cambridge are investors alongside the PLP senior management team. PLP also completed on a 2 million square-foot fulfilment centre for Amazon in Leeds.

Keith Wilson, PLP, said in a statement: “We are delighted to have won the CoStar Impact award for the North West for our PLP Knowsley scheme. It is fantastic recognition for a game-changing development, which has already benefitted countless local residents and businesses, and will leave a lasting legacy for years to come.”

What the judges said: “A challenging site with a chequered past. This deal has reinforced this area of Merseyside as one of the most successful industrial parks not only in the region but globally, acting as a catalyst for further investment and development to this area,” said Simon Wood, investment director at B8RE.
