Edition debuts in Africa
Marriott International brand Edition and owner V&A Waterfront Holdings will bring the first hotel for the brand into Africa later this year. The 142-room Cape Town Edition will be joined by six private, branded residences, and there will be a pool and a rooftop bar, all under the gaze of Shanghai-based architectural firm Neri & Hu.
Dubai’s The Meydan reopens under Kerzner
Owned by Dubai Holding Hospitality, The Meydan has reopened in Dubai under a new lease of life with operations and management from hotel brand Rare Finds, part of Kerzner International. The 284-room hotel welcomed its first guests on Jan. 15 and is adjacent to Dubai’s Meydan Racecourse. The hotel was once known as the Jumeirah The Meydan.
Orion acquires majority share of Corinthia London
Orion Capital Managers, by way of its sponsored fund, Orion European Real Estate Fund VI, has signed a deal with International Hotel Investments, owner of the Corinthia Hotels Group, to acquire 72% of the Corinthia Hotel Lisbon. IHI, which owned 100% of the asset, will retain 28%, and Corinthia will continue to manage and operate it. Terms were not disclosed.
Swissôtel to debut in Czech Republic
Accor brand Swissôtel has made its debut in the Czech Republic with the Jan. 14 opening of the 125-room Swissôtel Mariánské Lázně in the city of Mariánské Lázně. Swissôtel has recently opened hotels in Central and Eastern Europe, notably the 201-room Swissôtel Resort Kolašin, Montenegro, and 64-room Swissôtel Poiana Brasov, Romania. Grathon Business A.S. owns the Czech hotel.
Partners Group, and two other partners, acquire Hoxton Poblenou
Baar, Switzerland-based Partners Group Holding AG, along with two partners, one being Trinity Investment, the other being unnamed, has acquired the 240-room Hoxton Poblenou in Barcelona from Norlake Hospitality. No price was disclosed, but Partners did say the acquisition is part of its global hospitality real estate strategy, which has a portfolio with a gross asset value of $1 billion.
Cloud 7 to open in El Jadida, Morocco
Kerten Hospitality has announced the signing of the Casadora Resort by Cloud 7 Hotels, which contains 156 hotel rooms, among other accommodation options. French developer Groupe Ramos owns the property, which is in El Jadida, Morocco, 60 miles southwest along the Atlantic Ocean from Casablanca.
Wildhive sets sights in Northumberland
Hotel brand The Wildhive Collection has announced it will debut its second property in the summer. Its Wildhive Eshott Hall, 10 miles north of Morpeth in the northern English shire of Northumberland, is a Grade II-listed Georgian manor in 37 acres, and it will have 15 rooms. Its sibling is the Wildhive Callow Hall in Derbyshire, also in England, which opened in September 2021.
Hyatt opens Kennedy 89 in Frankfurt
Hyatt Hotels Corporation opened the Kennedy 89 in the Sachsenhausen district of German city Frankfurt. Under the umbrella of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, owned by Berlin-based PrimeApartments GmbH and managed by SIC Properties GmbH, the property’s inspiration derives from former U.S. president John F. Kennedy’s visit to the city in 1963.
Kokomo acquires Lake Tegernsee hotel
Zug, Switzerland-based hospitality investment firm Kokomo Capital has acquired the 36-room Seehotel Waltershof in Rottach-Egern, Germany, on the shores of Lake Tegernsee. The hotel, to be rebranded under the in-house flag of Anagram, will open in 2027 with 21 rooms added to its current room count.
PPHE refinances Park Plaza Victoria
Amsterdam-based PPHE Hotel Group has refinanced its 299-room Park Plaza Victoria London for £88 million in a structure arranged by Santander U.K. and ABN AMRO Bank N.V. According to a news release, the “new facility is for a term of five years and will bear a floating interest rate, of which 90% is hedged at an all-in rate of 3.9%. This compares with an all-in fixed rate of 3.42% that applied under the existing facility.”
Mandarin to open Mallorca hotel
Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group has set the opening for its Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca, for spring 2026, with the 135-room hotel on its own promontory on the Mediterranean Sea. It will have six restaurants, among other offerings. The owner, Madrid-based Blasson Iberia, S.L., acquired the hotel in November 2021 for approximately $87 million, according to CoStar.
Bush Hotel Farnham sold for £12 million
In mid-January the Bush Hotel Farnham, in Farnham, Surrey, approximately 40 miles southwest of London, was sold by Latchbay Ltd. to an undisclosed buyer for £12 million. The 95-room hotel has a history dating to the 1618, and permission now has been sought to add 35 guestrooms and an orangery able to host 100 persons.
New Chapter hotel opening soon near Florence
The 82-room Chapter Chianti will open in June within the 16th-century Italian hamlet of Fontebussi, 35 miles southeast of Florence. Designed by South African designer Tristan Du Plessis, the hotel will have three restaurants and three bars, and the owner, Chapter House Italia, acquired the hamlet with its nine houses, 76 acres and other attributes, all now revamped, in June 2022.
Autograph signs Cape Town
Marriott International has revealed the 90-room Morea House, Autograph Collection, in Camps Bay, South Africa. Its partners in the hotel are local owner Mas Sam Holding and local operator Camps Bay Beach Hotel.
Accor comes to Chester
Accor plans to open the 144-room Ibis Styles Chester, Cheshire, England, in 2028 in partnership with developer TAG Chester Ltd., a subsidiary of TAG Developments. The hotel is one facility within a new city regeneration project named Chester City Gateway.
Premier Inn adds another hotel to Scottish capital
Whitbread PLC has been granted permission to convert Edinburgh’s Capital House into a 195-room Premier Inn. The firm acquired the 1984 property in December 2024 for £17 million, and it said it is to invest a further £21 million into a renovation and expansion.
IHG and SEDCO partner in Jeddah
IHG Hotels & Resorts and owner SEDCO Capital have signed a hotel management agreement to open the 150-room Hotel Indigo Grand Square Jeddah in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is the first time the two firms have worked together, and the deal also includes Ajdan Real Estate Development Co. and Masic Investment Co. No opening date was announced. IHG has close to 50 properties in Saudi Arabia either opened or in the pipeline.
Waldorf Astoria goes to Marbella
Hilton and owner, Fuengirola, Spain-based Higuerón Developments are to open the 120-room Waldorf Astoria Marbella, which is to debut in 2029. The property, within the Higuerón Marbella Golf Resort, will have indoor and outdoor pools, two restaurants and 120 branded residences.
