Within the diversity and inclusion world, we talk a lot about the term "intersectionality". In essence, it’s a word used to describe the overlap of different diversity characteristics. People from different backgrounds experience the world differently, and the concept of intersectionality helps to highlight the complexities and different lenses people see the world through, but also the different ways people are treated and the barriers they might face. It also helps us to move away from generalisations and assumptions about a person based on how they first appear to us.
