The coronavirus omicron variant and ensuring government restrictions on gathering in public sent Ottawa hotel performance plummeting to levels not seen since the early days of the pandemic. Over the past three weekends, however, key metrics in the city have shot up during the protests over vaccine mandates, with occupancy reaching 80% on the first weekend. Weekday performance benefitted too, but not to the same degree, suggesting people joined the protest for the weekend and returned home during the week.
