JLL's clean energy practice added a pair of veterans with experience in electric vehicle systems as the firm works to expand to keep pace with automotive companies developing production facilities and establishing nationwide charging networks.

The Chicago-based firm said Monday it hired Robert Anderson as a senior vice president and Jamare Bates as a vice president on its clean energy and infrastructure advisory team. That group works with corporations, public agencies and higher education institutions to help them address and improve their aging infrastructure systems. Anderson and Bates report to managing director Josephine Tucker, head of JLL's clean energy group.

Anderson, who's based in Denver, joined JLL from KPMG, where he served as a director on its infrastructure and major projects advisory team. In that role, he advised clients in the infrastructure and electric vehicle, or EV, sectors, on commercial transactions, financial structuring and alternative delivery projects.

Before joining KPMG in the U.S., he oversaw the launch of an EV charging business for infrastructure firm Amey in the United Kingdom.

Bates spent the past decade working at global engineering firm Black & Veatch, where he led the firm's federal electric vehicle infrastructure initiative. He is based in the Washington, D.C., area and brings 22 years of engineering and project management experience to JLL.

Responding to Demand

JLL is expanding its clean energy group because of increased demand for its services as corporations and public institutions endeavor to reduce their carbon footprints and EV automakers scout for sites and build car and battery plants across the country. The Biden administration recently set a goal for at least half of U.S. new car sales to be electric models by 2030.

"Sustainability has become increasingly important for occupiers, owners, developers and governments,” Tucker said in a statement. “As the industry moves from goal setting to implementation, there is a growing need for technical and commercial advisors to facilitate end to end."

The addition of Anderson and Bates "will help us expand our clean energy and EV infrastructure capabilities, serving growing demand from commercial and public sector clients," Tucker said.

In his new role at JLL, Anderson focuses on assisting new and existing clients in reaching their EV goals. He provides advisory services for the deployment of EV infrastructure, fleet transitions and the implementation of broader clean energy technologies alongside electric vehicle infrastructure. As for Bates, he will focus on expanding JLL's clean energy and infrastructure practice in the federal sector.
