For the first time, you can call Team Lyon Stahl the kings of Manhattan Beach, California, volleyball.
A team led by Parker Boehle, a broker at El Segundo, California-based Lyon Stahl Investment Real Estate, won the two-day 2022 Charlie Saikley 6-Man Beach Volleyball Tournament played earlier this month next to the Manhattan Beach Pier. Lyon Stahl first competed in the tournament in 2018, when it came in second place.
"The tournament is full of fun, sun, and competition bringing in as many as 50,000 attendees," Lyon Stahl said in a post on its website. "Teams dress up in over-the-top costumes to compete in the game while the line for Shellback Tavern is flooding with partiers."
The serious competition starts on the Saturday of the event. While Boehle led the team, Woody Stahl said in an email he wanted to "give a shout out to Mike Fisher from CBRE who also plays on our team and Duncan Backus from Lyon Stahl."
The tournament is named for Charlie Saikley, who ran the Manhattan Beach Open volleyball tournament for years. When Saikley died at age 69 in 2005, an Associated Press story said his nickname was the Godfather of Beach Volleyball.
In addition to Parker Boehle, Fisher and Backus, Lyon Stahl team members were Hayden Boehle, Davis Boehle, Jonah Seif, Devon Burki, Joe Worsley, Matt Marsh, Clay Paulin, Oli Martin, Henri Cherry, Karl Acres, Rowdy Lennon, Roy McFarland, Casey McGary, Price Jarman and Mitch Stahl, a middle blocker on the 2020 U.S. Olympic Volleyball Team.
