Hiring has slowed in the Austin metropolitan area, with the economy adding 9,600 jobs from July 2024 to July 2025, among the weakest annual gains for the greater Austin area in the past 15 years. On a percentage basis, this growth dipped to 0.8%, falling below the national growth rate for the first time since December 2003. It is an unusual position for this market, which has experienced stellar growth for the greater part of the last 15 years.
