With its latest move, Marriott International is telling its guests to take a hike.
After bringing in two outdoor-focused brands to its portfolio in late 2024, Marriott has launched its newest collection brand, Outdoor Collection by Marriott Bonvoy, as well as Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors, a digital booking platform for stays and outdoor activities, according to a news release.
The Outdoor Collection will have a portfolio of outdoor-focused stays that includes cabins near national parks as well as boutique hotels. The first two of Marriott’s brands in this collection are its Postcard Cabins and Trailborn Hotels, which joined Marriott through acquisition and a long-term agreement, respectively, in December 2024. Hotel Equities manages the Postcard Cabins brand for Marriott.
The Postcard Cabins portfolio has more than 1,200 cabins across 29 U.S. locations within two hours of major cities. The locations each have several tiny cabins in wooded areas, and each cabin features a modern design with private bathrooms, full kitchens and enough space in between for privacy.
Trailborn is an outdoor hospitality brand with bespoke hotels located near areas for outdoor activities, such as surfing and hiking. The hotels offer guided excursions and field guides. There are five properties currently, according to its website, with another two locations in the works.
“We built Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors to help people, whether that’s cresting a mountain trail, catching the perfect wave, or simply finding quiet under the stars,” said Peggy Roe, executive vice president and chief customer officer at Marriott, in the release. “Travel is at its best when it speaks to who we are and what we love. It’s about reconnecting with yourself and the people you love in the places that inspire you most.”
Marriott Bonvoy Outdoors will allow travelers to book their stays based on their destination as well as by the activity they want to do. They can search more than 450 hotels, 50,000 Homes & Villas offerings and tours and activities that include skiing, snowboarding, hiking, glamping, biking, surfing and more.
