Provenance Hotels transforms two historic buildings
Provenance Hotels and NBP Capital purchased the historic Cornelius Hotel and the adjacent Woodlark Building in Portland, Oregon, to renovate them into The Woodlark, a 151-room boutique hotel. Plans call for the hotel to open in late 2017. Portland’s Staicoff Design Studio is heading the design, which will result in “a look that is lighter and more elegant than one might expect in a city synonymous with flannels, beards and reclaimed barn wood,” according to the news release from Provenance Hotels.

“Our goal is to create an experience that reflects Portland’s lush surroundings and balances beauty with substance, nuance and soul," said Bashar Wali, president of Provenance Hotels. “We aim to fully embrace the Cornelius Hotel’s original motto – House of Welcome – and make The Woodlark a place for both visitors and locals to connect with the city’s offerings.”

Brooklyn’s latest boutique opens
The new-build William Vale hotel in Brooklyn’s Williamsburg neighborhood opened in early September after nearly two years under construction. Owners Yoel Goldman and Zelig Weiss focused on views with this high-rise—the hotel is built on a stilt-like base, and the 22nd floor Westlight rooftop bar is the centerpiece for gathering. The hotel also has an elevated 15,000-square-foot green space above street level.

Shinola hotel slated for Detroit
The Wall Street Journal reports that Detroit is getting another boutique hotel. Quicken Loans founder and chairman Dan Gilbert is partnering with Detroit watchmaker Shinola to build a 130-room boutique hotel with retail space in downtown Detroit. The Noho Hospitality Group will run the F&B and the hotel is slated to open in fall 2018.
