Highwoods Properties employees brought together the Tampa, Florida, real estate brokerage community in the past week by hosting the property investment trust's inaugural pickleball tournament for charity.

Players in the tournament held at Tampa Pickleball Crew in Ybor City, Florida, included partners from the Raleigh, North Carolina-based company’s commercial real estate division to support The Spring of Tampa Bay. The organization, active in Tampa since 1976, is one of the largest domestic violence shelters in Florida with 128 beds.

Chaired by Debra Livingston of ReEmployAbility, The Spring also offers programs to prevent domestic violence, support those affected, and promote change.

All told, Highwood’s charity tournament raised $6,200 for The Spring from companies including CBRE, JLL, AiC Architecture, Savills, Franklin Street and Cardinal Point. Juan Rodriguez-Acosta and Kayla Stutesman, both from CBRE, were named tournament champions.

Jemma Garcia, a representative from The Spring, worked with Lauren Coup, senior director of leasing at Highwoods Properties, who hosted the event along with Kyle Johnson and Brad Heeter.
