Six Senses debuts in London

IHG Hotels & Resorts debuted its Six Senses London on March 1, the luxury brand’s first foray in the United Kingdom capital. AvroKO and EPR Architects have designed the 109-room hotel, which is a conversion of the Art Deco department store The Whiteley just off London’s Queensway. According to CoStar, Italian owner Grupo Statuto acquired the hotel un May 2024 for £180 million (€206 million) or approximately £1.65 million (€1.89 million) per key.

Accor’s Handwritten enters Austria

Accor and owner Verkehrsburo Hotellerie GmbH have begun their partnership with the debut of Accor’s luxury soft brand Handwritten Collection in Austria. In a former private residence built in 1882, the Hotel Rathauspark Wien-Handwritten Collection has 105 rooms.

Aleph to open third hotel in Kigali

Dubai-based management firm Aleph Hospitality has signed a hotel agreement with owner DND Developers for the 60-room Best Western Premier Royal Golf View in Rwanda’s capital Kigali. When the hotel opens in July 2027, Aleph will have a trio of properties in Kigali and an overall portfolio of more than 50 opened hotels.

Primestar enters Hamburg

An investor consortium led by businessman Dieter Becken plans to open the 195-room, new-build Hilton Hamburg Elbtower in 2029 and has selected Primestar Group to be its operator. For Primestar, the hotel will be a debut in Hamburg, and the property will be part of a new German “smart city.”

Scandic Go goes twice to Tromsø

Scandic Hotels Group has signed with owner Nordlyskvartalet AS to open in the summer its second Scandic Go-branded hotel in Norway. The Scandic Go Tromsø will have 170 rooms, and it will join Scandic’s other two hotels in the small island Arctic Circle city, the 214-room Scandic Ishavshotel and 350-room The Dock 69°39 by Scandic.

Hoteles Globales acquires Mallorcan three

In January, Mallorca-based Hoteles Globales acquired a three-hotel portfolio in Mallorca from an affiliate of Cerberus Capital Management. The three hotels are the 233-room Caprice Janeiro Hotel & Spa; 142-room Caprice Concord Hotel & Spa, and 113-room Caprice Isabel Hotel & Spa. The price was not disclosed.

Travelodge opens 86th London hotel

U.K. budget brand Travelodge has opened the 151-room Travelodge London Stratford Centre, which is its 86th hotel within the boundaries of London. It has more than 600 hotels now across the country, so close to 15% are in the capital.

Hyatt rebrands Portugal hotel

At the end of January, Hyatt Hotels Corp. opened the 278-room Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve, a reflagging of the former hotel, Dom Pedro Vilamoura. The management firm at the hotel is Details Hospitality, Sports, Leisure, an operations division of Arrow Global Group. According to CoStar, Arrow acquired the hotel as part of a six-hotel deal with a price tag of almost £215 million (€246 million).

Radisson opens in northern Tenerife

Radisson Hotel Group has opened the 250-room Radisson Resort & Residences Tenerife on the island’s northern coast in the town of Puerto de la Cruz. Overlooking Tenerife’s largest mountain, Mount Teide, the hotel’s owner is Barcelona-based Tenerife Assets Co., and the operator is Canarian Hospitality.

Arcano acquires three Alua hotels

Via its fund, Arcano Spanish Value Added Real Estate III, Madrid-based Arcano Partners has acquired three Tenerife hotels that together have 1,050 rooms — the 438-room Alua Tenerife; 410-room Alua Atlántico Golf Resort, and 202-room AluaSoul Orotava Valley. The trio was acquired for an undisclosed price from a subsidiary of Hyatt, which will continue management of the hotels via its Apple Leisure Group division.
