December Jobs Report Wraps Up Tough Year for Rhode Island Capital

Total employment declined by about 7,000 jobs in the Providence, Rhode Island, metropolitan area in December, per the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ latest jobs report. These job losses wrapped up a tough year for the local economy, as the coronavirus pandemic forced many employers to make cuts. Employment declined by about 8% in 2020, with most losses occurring in the leisure and hospitality sector.
