Dell is closing its manufacturing plant in Winston-Salem, NC, cutting 905 jobs. 600 employees are due to be laid off by next month, with the plant officially shuttering in January. The closure is part of a $4 billion initiative by the computer company to increase its operating efficiency. Earlier actions included the June sale of Dell's facility in Lebanon, TX, to GENCO, and the January relocation of its operations in Ireland to Poland. Once the Winston-Salem plant closes its doors, Dell will only be operating out of three U.S. states - Florida, Tennessee and Texas. Dell said that affected employees would receive severance pay, incentive payments, continuation of benefits and outplacement assistance.
