BI-LO Files Chapter 11 to Circumvent Upcoming Debt Maturity; Intends to Keep Stores Open

Update Published Apr. 19, 2009 According to CoStar's Mark Heschmeyer, bankrupt supermarket chain, BI-LO, has requested court approval to cancel 31 of its leases; which are located in AL (4), GA (6), NC (4), SC (12), and TN (5). These leases include 14 stores subleased to other parties (including the Salvation Army, A.C. Moore, and Staples), and one lease assigned to Ingles Markets. BI-LO's chain consists of 215 stores.
