New Scandic hotel opens in Norway
Scandic Hotels has opened the 305-room The Dock 69°39 by Scandic in Tromsø, Norway, almost 200 miles north of the Arctic Circle. The owner is Norwegian firm Totaleiendom.
Lodge opens in Kenyan nature preserve
AndBeyond has opened the AndBeyond Suyian Lodge in Kenya’s 44,000-acre Suyian Conservancy natural reserve. Each of the hotel’s 14 suites has a pool, and the owner is the Suyian Conservancy, which manages the wildlife area that was once a cattle farm but has gone through a rewilding scheme over the last two decades.
MGallery Collection debuts in Albania
Accor brand MGallery Collection has opened its debut hotel in Albania, the 131-room Green Coast Hotel MGallery Collection. The property is on the Albanian coastline overlooking the Adriatic and Ionian seas, just north of the small towns of Gjilekë and Palasë and approximately 120 miles south of capital Tirana.
Former Florence convent opens as luxury hotel
Florence has a new boutique hotel, The James Suite Hotel Florence, which has 14 suites. The hotel was built as a convent in 1564.
Grand Hotel Majestic converts to W Florence
Marriott International and owner Progetto Majestic also have opened the 119-room W Florence, a conversion of the Grand Hotel Majestic, which dates to 1968.
Mallorca hotel opens in August
Next month, Spanish hotel firm Annua Signature Hotels plans to open the 22-room Son Xotano, its debut on the Balearic island of Mallorca. The hotel is in the village of Sencelles, with parts of the property dating to the 12th century. Annua Signature Hotels has three additional hotels on the neighboring island of Menorca.
Travelodge UK expands in Spain
United Kingdom budget-hotel firm Travelodge has acquired the freehold for a development site on the outskirts of Madrid. When a hotel opens there in summer 2027, it will be Travelodge's 13th hotel in Spain. Travelodge OpCo Group financed the deal, and work is expected to start later this year.
Abu Dhabi investor acquires Munich hotel
Eagle Hills, the Abu Dhabi-based investment firm, has acquired the 73-room Mandarin Oriental Munich from Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group for approximately €150 million.
Voco hotel opens in Dublin
IHG has debuted its Voco brand in Ireland with the opening of the 50-room Voco The Club Dublin Gateway. The hotel sits on the N7 freeway, close to the towns of Kill and Naas, County Kildare, that links the Irish capital to Limerick. The owner is Kildare Hotel Opportunities Limited.
Banyan Tree to open safari resort in Tanzania
By the end of the year, Banyan Tree plans to open Ubuyu, a Banyan Tree Escape, in Ruaha National Park, Tanzania. The park's wildlife includes a pack of rare African wild dog and more than 570 species of birds. It is Banyan Tree’s first safari resort and will have mix of one-, two- and three-guestroom villas.
Joint venture acquires Ruby Stella London
London-based La Salle Investment Management and pension fund Northern Ireland Local Government Officers’ Superannuation Committee have acquired the 153-room Ruby Stella London for £48 million, or approximately £314,000 per key. The hotel opened in November 2024 in the Farringdon district of the city. The seller is RE Capital, which has offices in Geneva, Lisbon, London and Luxembourg.
Lamington Group acquires lease for Shire Hall serviced apartments
Owner-operator Lamington Group, via division Cambridge Apartment Hotels, has acquired a 250-year lease on Shire Hall in the British university city. Planning applications, completion and renovation work is expected to take 18 months or so. The property was the home of Cambridgeshire County Council between 1932 and 2021.
Aman Hotels converts Dolomite hotel into Aman Rosa Alpina
Aman Hotels has converted the Rosa Alpina in the village of San Cassiano in the Dolomite Mountains of Italy into the 52-room Aman Rosa Alpina, which opened on July 24 and is owned and operated by Aman.
Sir Hotels bringing brand to UK
Sir Hotels will soon open its first asset in the U.K., the 81-room Sir Devonshire Square in the City of London, in partnership with owner Devonshire Hotels & Restaurants Group. Sir Hotels also has properties in Barcelona, Berlin, Prague and its home of Amsterdam.
Radisson Collection hotel opens in France
Radisson Hotels Group soft brand Radisson Collection has opened its first hotel in France, the Cour des Loges Lyon, a Radisson Collection Hotel. The property, owned by Principal Real Estate Europe via its fund Immobilien Spezial Fonds II, dates to the 14th Century and has 61 rooms.
Mama Shelter Zurich opens at the end of July
Mama Shelter, another Accor brand, plans to open on July 31 its first hotel in Switzerland, the Mama Shelter Zurich. The hotel, which will have 178 rooms, is in the city’s Oerlikon district and is owned by local developer Steiner AG.
Hilton opens Canopy hotel in South Africa
Hilton and Sandton, South Africa-based real estate investment trust Growthpoint Properties have announced it has opened the 154-room Canopy by Hilton Cape Town Longkloof, the brand’s debut in the country.

Hyatt Hotels Corp.-branded Destination by Hyatt brand has opened its debut property in Greece, the adults-only, 104-room Zélia Halkidiki. Af Partners is the developer of the resort, which is in the north of the country 45 miles south of Thessaloniki.
