Amir Golbarg
Golbarg has been promoted to chief operating officer, Middle East and Africa, at Thailand-based hotel firm Minor Hotels. He has been at the company since 2012, when he started in the role of director of operations and hotel offerings, with his previous role to his new one being as chief operating officer and corporate director, Qatar. He has also been a general manager, at Minor’s 141-room Souq Waqif Boutique Hotels by Tivoli in Doha, Qatar.
Claudia Rodrigues
Rodrigues has been appointed as the new general manager of the 46-room Nusfjord Village & Resort in the Lofoten Islands of northern Norway, among the world’s most northerly hotels at 68.0353° N, 13.3478° E. The Portuguese native has spanned the world in her hotel career, with roles in Antigua & Barbuda, Fiji, Papua New Guinea, Spain, Vietnam and, in her last role as multi-site general manager for Belmond Safaris, Botswana.
Awele Elumelu
Elumelu has been appointed as chair of the board of Nigeria’s Transcorp Hotels, a subsidiary of Transnational Corp. A medical doctor, Elumelu also is chair of Avon Healthcare Ltd., a health-insurance firm, and Avon Medical Practice. Transcorp owns three hotels, including the 667-room Hilton Transcorp Abuja in Nigeria’s capital.
Uta Scheurer
Scheurer has joined Munich-based hotel management firm Primestar Group, which has more than 4,300 rooms in Germany and Austria, as chief people officer. She has spent her past 12 years at German hotel group Ruby Hotels over three different roles in its human resources division.
Olivia Donnan, Mark Henderson and Rohan Thakkar
Donnan, Henderson and Thakker have all been promoted at hotel firm Yotel. Donnan’s new role is senior vice president, brand, culture and growth; Henderson’s is senior vice president, design and construction; and Thakkar’s is chief development and strategy officer. They have been at London-based Yotel for three, eight and 11 years, respectively.
Tamara Lohan
Has been appointed interim global brand leader, luxury, at Hyatt Hotels Corp. London-based Lohan is the founder and chair of boutique-hotel marketing firm Mr & Mrs Smith, which she began in December 2002. Hyatt acquired Mr & Mrs Smith in 2023.
Polychronis Griveas
Griveas has been named as chief strategy and business officer and group hotel general manager at Divanis Group, which has seven hotels in Greece under the flag of Divanis Hotel Collection. For the past 12 years, he has been chair of the board at Athens-based business advisory Paragon.
Graham Copeman
Copeman has been hired as the new managing director of Elite Hotels, which owns three luxury hotels in the south of England — 152-room Grand Hotel Eastbourne in Sussex; 112-room Tylney Hall Hotel in Hampshire; and 106-room Ashdown Park Hotel & Country Club, also in Sussex. Copeman arrives from being the general manager at 124-room Pennyhill Park for more than six years, also in South England but in the county of Surrey.
Giusy Guarracino
Guarracino has been promoted to the position of managing director at hotel owner Oekter Collection’s 50-room Hotel La Palma in Capri, Italy. Since April 2022, Guarracino was executive head of sales, reservations and revenue at the hotel, and she has, among other roles, worked at Rocco Forte Hotels.
Aaron Kaupp
Kaupp has been promoted, beginning a new role as regional vice president and managing for three hotels under the umbrella of Raffles Hotels & Resorts — 77-room Raffles Al Areen Palace Bahrain; 85-room Raffles Praslin Seychelles; and 359-room Raffles The Palm Dubai, where up until now he has worked as its managing director.
